A look at the world

Editorial

Take a look around you. What do you see? We’ll tell you what we see. We see a schizophrenic society; a society capable of living a lie of unprecedented historical consequence. A society whose essence and appearance is aberrant but lays claim to a moral and practical high ground that just isn’t there. We see a monster. Why is that?

It is because we see injustice. From people forced to live in the streets, suffer from exploitation in the factories, die from want of food or even decent water, the collective life of Humanity on a world scale is that of a battered being.

It is because we see war. From the ongoing slaughter in Chechnya, Israel, Palestine and Afghanistan to the coming war in Iraq and elsewhere, the content of our time is one of perpetual war, killing off populations at an astounding rate in ever more countries around the world.

It is because we see filth. From the poisons in the air we breathe to the crap in the water we drink, the state of our planet is sorry and sick.

It is because we see oppression. From the woman’s question to the different racial and sexual discriminations and religious intolerances, the treatment of our differences is based on ignorance and hate.

It is because we see fear and desperation. In a certain way, most of us see and sense the world the same manner, but have either lost faith in the possibility of a better life or are scared of losing the little we have left. The future of Humanity is thus compromised by a lack of perspectives and hope.

This is what we see. But this is not what we are taught and told. There is an immense contradiction between the induced appearance of our society and its essence. This world, completely and universally dominated by the capitalist mode of production is a very sick one. If it is not treated, if we do not get rid of the monstrous cancer of capitalism, it will not get better. To the contrary, it can very well drag us down to new lows of barbarity and even to outright annihilation.

It is precisely because we refuse this course, it is because we refuse injustice, war, filth, oppression, fear and desperation that we continue the struggle for true communism. We call on all workers and all our readers to join us in this fight!
