Le capitalisme est dans une spirale descendante de troubles économiques et politiques. Depuis l'apparition du coronavirus, les capitalistes se sont assurés de récupérer leurs profits par tous les moyens nécessaires et ont déployé leur assaut contre la classe ouvrière. Ici, à Montréal, nous avons déjà subi deux coups durs : la crise du coût de la vie et la crise du logement. Pourtant, avec le dernier assaut sous la forme d'une hausse des frais de scolarité, l'État capitaliste a l'intention de presser les étudiants au maximum. Les universités ont tenu à nous assurer que ces hausses pouvaient être couvertes par des subventions, mais les patrons ne reçoivent pas les fonds comme une manne tombée du ciel - de tels compromis seront sans doute accueillis par de nouvelles attaques contre les victimes habituelles, telles que le personnel et les enseignants. Plutôt qu'une attaque spécifique du franco-chauvinisme menée par la CAQ (Coalition Avenir Québec), la hausse des frais de scolarité est la dernière attaque combinée contre l'ensemble de la classe ouvrière. Ce sont les réflexes d'un système moribond construit sur l'accumulation par l'exploitation, qui ne survit que tant que les patrons peuvent pressurer la classe ouvrière sans résistance. Pour vaincre ces attaques éhontées, les étudiants doivent réaliser leurs revendications en tant que membres de la classe ouvrière, dans le cadre d'un mouvement révolutionnaire avec la classe. Les étudiants ne peuvent s'en tenir à l'illusion qu'ils ne sont que des clients payants des universités ou des arrivistes temporairement prolétarisés.

L'intérêt commun des travailleurs et des étudiants n'est nulle part plus clair que dans les grèves étudiantes de 2012, où des marches commençant par quelques centaines ont débouché sur un mouvement impliquant des milliers de personnes. Cependant, tant que la lutte sera limitée à une critique des politiques transitoires ou à la spécificité du franco-chauvinisme, aucun effort de ce type ne se transformera jamais en un véritable levier politique pour la classe ouvrière. Pour fonctionner, le capitalisme a besoin d'établissements d'enseignement pour former les générations suivantes de travailleurs aux besoins croissants du capital. Fermer une école ou une université, c'est donc mettre un frein à ce processus et constituer un véritable obstacle au fonctionnement de la société capitaliste. Le refus des futurs administrateurs, scientifiques, techniciens et spécialistes de poursuivre leur exploitation est donc intrinsèquement une attaque politique contre l'État capitaliste lui-même, mais il ne peut servir les intérêts de la classe ouvrière que s'il est compris comme un effort politiquement conscient par les travailleurs eux-mêmes. En effet, le mois de décembre dernier nous a déjà offert un aperçu récent de la manière dont les luttes ouvrières et étudiantes peuvent être combinées, ainsi que des pièges des organisations conventionnelles telles que les syndicats. Bien que le Front Commun et les enseignants de la FAE (Fédération Autonome de l'Enseignement) aient été rejoints par les étudiants de l'ADEESE (Association des étudiantes et étudiants de la Faculté des sciences de l'éducation de l'UQAM), chacun d'entre eux a abandonné son combat pour obtenir des " concessions ", quand il n'a pas carrément renoncé à se battre. Au lieu de se battre ensemble pour un objectif commun quand le moment est venu, ces organisations ont fini par se battre quand cela leur convenait, et étaient destinées à être vaincues dans l'isolement.

Plutôt que de montrer l'inefficacité de ces luttes, ces épisodes démontrent au contraire la nécessité d'élargir la lutte contre les frais de scolarité pour en faire une lutte féroce. Les étudiants doivent joindre leurs efforts à ceux de leurs camarades de travail, en tant que travailleurs, et politiser leurs difficultés économiques en vue d'un objectif révolutionnaire. En ce moment même, la hausse des frais de scolarité, la stagnation des salaires et des allocations, ainsi que la déréglementation des loyers en vertu du projet de loi 31 ne sont pas des inconvénients temporaires ou isolés, mais une attaque contre la classe ouvrière elle-même, et même contre le fonctionnement normal du capitalisme. Peu importe où l'avenir nous mènera au-delà des portes de l'université, tant que le capital existera, il nous sapera aussi jusqu'à ce que nous soyons secs et prolétarisés, appauvrissant le monde entier. Le capitalisme nous a déjà démontré que ses attaques prendront la forme de l'impérialisme grotesque et d'une attaque sans précédent contre les salaires et les droits sociaux fondamentaux. Les travailleurs du monde entier doivent orienter leurs luttes pour leurs propres intérêts et vers la formation d'un parti révolutionnaire de la classe ouvrière capable d'indiquer une direction politique claire pour l'avènement du communisme. Combattons l'État, combattons les universités, combattons les patrons !
