Home ›Capitalism's climate catastrophe - CO2 higher than ever...
Scientists are calling on world leaders to take action on climate change after carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere broke through a symbolic threshold.
Daily CO2 readings at a US government agency lab on Hawaii have topped 400 parts per million for the first time…………Ministers in the UK have claimed global leadership in reducing CO2 emissions and urged other nations to follow suit…..But the official Climate Change Committee (CCC) last month said that Britain's total contribution towards heating the climate had increased, because the UK is importing goods that produce CO2 in other countries….The last time CO2 was regularly above 400ppm was three to five million years ago - before modern humans existed.
Professor Sir Brian Hoskins, director of the Grantham Institute for Climate Change at Imperial College London, said …………"Before we started influencing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, over the last million years it went between about 180 and 280 parts per million," he said……."Now, since the Industrial Revolution and more in the last 50 years, we've taken that level up by more than 40% to a level of 400 and that hasn't been seen on this planet for probably four million years.

The bourgeoisie will never do anything about climate change. They haven't got the money; they can't agree on anything; they're too busy fighting wars with each other; and all-in-all they've had it. It's just a question now of whether we, the working class, are up to making our revolution before it's too late, and the next ice-age, or submersion by the oceans, or mass starvation and epidemics, or whatever it'll be, puts us all out of our misery.
The bourgeoisie doesn't even talk about climate change anymore: they know they can't do anything about it. All they're interested in now is: gun control for civilians or not; can we get away with using chemical and biological weapons; can we get away with imposing sufficient austerity on the working class to keep capitalism going till the next "recovery"; how do we go on appearing to look like "world leaders" when we don't know what the fuck we're doing, and most people are sick of us; how can we go on maintaining that our bourgeois democracies really do believe in peace, freedom and equality for all, when anyone with eyes to see can tell its all a set of hypocritical lies; and how do we insist on our rule, our dictatorship, when the majority of humanity no longer get any benefit from it, only increasing misery?
So, calling on "world leaders" (lol) to do something about climate change, has about as much chance of achieving anything, as calling on world leaders to solve the very crisis of capitalism which caused it in the first place. We have to get rid of the bourgeoisie!
You are right Charlie. Since the bursting of the speculative bubble all "green capitalist" policies are on the back burner (more CO2!). Now they are telling us that all kinds of carbon fuels are actually not so bad after all. According to physicists we have about 4 and a half billion years before the sun burns out (but at leat 1 billion before the process of decline begins and we start to find life is pretty uncomfortable on Earth) but humanity in a mere few hundred years is rapidly undermining the previous four and half billion years it took to produce life on earth. Even Stephen Hawkins has recommended we move within the next millenium as we will have ruined this "home". And as you say capitalism in its race for profits is incapable of addressing the issue in any form. We have to abolish it before it abolishes us all.
